General FAQs

Will I get travel expenses covered?

Yes, reasonable travel expenses will be paid. This can cover car mileage claims, transport tickets and reasonable taxi journeys (approx. £35 each way). You will be asked to fill in a university expense form.

How often should I wear the devices?

Research has shown that wearing the smart pressure-monitoring devices (like the ones used in this study) for 4.5 hours a day, significantly reduces your risk of developing an ulcer. Therefore, we recommend wearing the insoles/socks for at least 4.5 hours a day.

I have some feedback on the devices that I want to share. What shall I do?

Please make a note of all the feedback you wish to share about the devices, and you will have an opportunity to feedback all your comments in a short interview at the end of each intervention.

What happens if the insoles or socks cause discomfort or if you see signs such as sock indentations?

Please stop wearing the insoles/socks immediately and contact S.Skidmore@keele.ac.uk at the soonest opportunity.

What happens if I get a break in the skin under my foot during the study?

Please contact S.Skidmore@keele.ac.uk at the soonest opportunity, as well as your diabetes specialist. Although it may seem small, any break in the skin should be dealt with carefully.
